turkey in the field

just got a disposable camera developed. excuse the untimeliness...

happy thanksgiving!






it was a gloriously sunny day and blessedly warm.
we dug out a hole under the coals to bury the (pre-cooked) turkey,
which we wrapped in half a roll of tin foil and seasoned with lemon, garlic, onion, s&p.
it turned at least one turkey hater into a turkey lover.
we set places at their butt pads (green folded up thing behind me above)
with paper plates, napkins and forks. wilderclass! and cups of apple cider.
delish!
i think this one beat out even
the chicken-in-china thanksgiving
for most unique. and is also near the top of most memorable.

we were about to eat when the guys HAD TO run up the side of the butte to watch the sunset,
and i'm glad they did.
we stood and watched the pinks and oranges and purples
paint the horizon, with mouths agape
and much gratitude.
later one of them lamented not doing 11th Step (meditation)
and i said, "i think we had impromptu 11th step with the sun,"
and, really,
it was a whole daylong meditation of thanks
and practicing presence.
